LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that politics means selfless service to the people.
“Pakistan’s fate is due to change owing to prudent policies of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government,” a statement quoted the chief minister as saying.
Taking a swipe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, the chief minister said that Imran’s four-year politics was all about lies and chaos. He said that Imran Khan had lost the fame in politics he had earned before. He said that Imran had failed to serve the public selflessly. He accused Kaptaan of hypocrisy and non-democratic behaviour.
Khan had earlier claimed that the person, who had offered him Rs 10 billion bribe to stay mum over Panama case, was an aide of Shahbaz Sharif, an accusation that the Punjab chief minister declines.
Without mentioning the name, the PTI chief had said the person lives in Lahore. However; he had declared that if the PML-N government files a defamation suit against him he would make the name public.
Separately, in his message on the Labour Day, the chief minister said that the International Workers’ Day revives the memory of struggle of workers of Chicago in 1886 for their fundamental rights and sacrifices they offered in the attainment of their objectives.
The chief minister said labourers and workers played a key role in strengthening of national economy and targets of development could not be achieved without prosperity, empowerment and due respect of workers.
He said role of labourers and workers was very important in the progress and development of country. The chief minister said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N government was paying full attention to welfare and uplift of the worker community. He said that the workforce of the country had full potential to achieve the targets of development.
He said thousands of youngsters have been imparted training under the Skill Development Programme of the Punjab government. “Besides, 87,000 children of brick-kiln workers have been enrolled in different government-sponsored schools for providing them free education,” he added.
The chief minister stated that establishment of quality education institutions for the children of labourers, besides social security hospitals and labour colonies were a proof of labour-friendly policies of the Punjab government.
