LARKANA: Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair on Sunday distributed 153 laptops among male and female students under the Prime Minister’s scheme at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) Larkana campus in Areeja village.
Speaking at the ceremony organized at the university’s main campus near Larkana, the governor said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) is producing highly talented people who are a matter of pride. “I feel proud knowing that graduates of this university are working in several other countries, including the US and the UK apart from Pakistan,” he said .
The governor said that he would do whatever he could do for the betterment of the university, adding that construction work of the University campus would be completed soon for which all possible help will be provided by the federal government and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
“Sindh government’s cooperation will also be sought so that male and female students of the university could be provided better facilities.” He asked the students to keep working hard and they will take care of their studies. He invited the 10 top position holder students of the university to visit Governor House and have lunch with him, adding that they will also be given cash prizes. These students include Saqib Zaheer, Pushma Salim, Shazma Ali, Reema Reshma. Rahul, Sumera. Faiza Aijaz, Maria, Ghulam Datagir and Nausheen Abro.
Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa demanded in his speech the recognition of Bibi Aseefa Dental College & Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Nursing Institute for which he sought the help of the governor. Prof Channa also demanded the establishment of a 500-bed capacity new hospital at the university campus for which the governor assured him of his full support.
Zubair said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had already accepted some of the recommendations and he hoped that the demands put forward by the VC were justified and will be accepted by the Prime Minister.
The governor said that he was going to Islamabad on Monday and shall submit all the demands to the Prime Minister. He also presided over the 2nd meeting of the University’s Senate where he was briefed about the five year activities of the university, on-going development works and other administrative matters.
Decisions and appointments made by the university administration were approved. HEC representative AQ Mughal, Additional Health Secretary Zahid Kamtio, Registrar of the university Dr Afsar Bhutto and others participated in the meeting.
