ISLAMABAD: After the joint investigation team which is currently designated with the task of investigating the offshore assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family submitted its initial report to the Supreme court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday, the SC adjourned the hearing for the Panama Case for two weeks.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal is hearing the case according to reports.
Judges reviewed the JIT report which was divided into two parts, in the courtroom.
Justice Ejaz observed that the case has to be completed within 60 days and no additional time could be afforded.
“We are not showing our lack of confidence in the report,” the judge said.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s counsel, Fawad Chaudhry pleaded to the court to provide a copy of the JIT report regarding the Panama case, and his request was rightly turned down by the bench.
Justice Ejaz, while addressing Chaudhry said that the law does not allow this nor would any interference be allowed in this sensitive and serious matter.
Leaders of both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PTI were present in the court during for the occasion.
JIT had earlier interviewed journalist Umer Cheema and recorded his answers while investigating the Hudaibiya Paper Mills Case.
Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General Wajid Zia had also conducted about 12 meetings in which records relating to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) were sought.
