ISLAMABAD: After the Panama Papers, another high-profile case regarding Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s ineligibility was heard by the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, and PTI chief was directed to submit his reply till July 25.
In the absence of Imran’s counsel Anwar Mansoor, who has gone abroad, Naeem Bukhari defended PTI chairman regarding his money trail of London flats before the three-member bench that will be headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar.
Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Ata Bandial are the other two honorable members of the bench. Mian Saqib Nisar inquired from Imran Khan’s lawyer that whether his client holds any evidence of his foreign income, and asked Bukhari to satisfy the apex court.
He said that SC wants to ensure that the money was not sent abroad illegally to buy the London flats. The chief justice further said that it is likely that the court will not allow Imran to present any further documents after July 25.
On the other hand, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi, who is also the petitioner of this case, has said that PTI is acting in the same way like it did before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by changing lawyers to delay the proceedings.
CJP had remarked on the previous hearing that the court issued notices on some miscellaneous applications but their replies were not submitted. Justice Saqib Nisar further asked that when will Imran Khan’s lawyer be available for the case.
Advocate Naeem Bukhari then requested the court to given him two-day time and took the stance that he has to submit some important documents in the Supreme Court.
