ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said on Thursday that there had been no high level contact between the two countries since the US president’s allegations against Pakistan.
In his weekly press briefing on Thursday, Zakaria said: “Pakistan wants to sort out issues with US through dialogue, but there is no high level contacts between the two countries following the Trump speech.”
Rejecting the latest statement of General John Nicholson, Commander of US Forces and NATO in Afghanistan, he termed it “unnecessary and unacceptable”.
Zakaria further stated that Pakistan’s foreign policy faced many challenges and it the prevailing circumstances, it is better to ignore the alleged letter of Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit.
“The Afghan war cannot be fought on Pakistani soil as it will be harmful for regional peace and stability. Pakistan strongly believes that Afghan conflict’s solution relies in political settlement instead of military arrangement,” he said.
He said National Security Committee’s meeting earlier this week also emphasised over the political settlement of Afghan peace process.
He said Pakistan strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Afghanistan in which precious lives of innocent people have been lost and sympathised with the bereaved families and pray for the victims.
He said that a three-day conference of selected Pakistani envoys would begin in Islamabad from Tuesday for brainstorming discussions on important foreign policy issues.
