LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Friday sought reply from the government and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on a petition challenging ban on broadcasting Indian content on television.
The court ordered the respondents to file replies until February 9 and justify the impugned circular when Indian movies were being screened.
The court was hearing a petition moved on behalf of m/s Leo Communication challenging a circular issued by the PEMRA on October 19, 2016 for being in violation to the authority’s rules and the constitution as well.
Counsel for petitioner argued that the PEMRA in 2010 granted a 15-year licence to the petitioner’s company to operate a cable channel by the name of `Filmazia.’ He submitted that under the licence the channel was allowed to broadcast ten percent of foreign content including that of India.
