KARACHI: The main campus of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) this week set up the option of live lectures from a foreign university through its new e-learning education programme for students of computer and management sciences.
In this regard, the first two lectures were given on Saturday evening by Doctoral Works Director Dr Roshan Sheikh from the Pace University in New York. He also gave live answers to students’ questions.
Dr Roshan Shaikh, who is a Doctor of Professional Studies in Computer Science, also did his PhD from South West University, New Orleans, USA in Computer Science on artificial intelligence.
MAJU has obtained the services of six prominent professors from US, UK and Malaysian universities for its faculty.
Dr Shaikh, while delivering his lecture on cyber security, said that the universities providing computer science education across the world face the problem of protecting their data from hackers. He said normally computer users install antivirus software to save data from hacking and safety. He said that it is the responsibility of internet service providers to take measures to protect their customers’ data from viruses and hacking.
He said that professional organisations also take care of the safety of their data, which is called cyber security.
Dr Shaikh said that in Pakistan, awareness among computer users, both individuals and organisations, is increasing in regards to the safety and security of their data. He said in comparison to developed countries, the use of online services in their daily life is very low; however it will increase gradually with the passage of time and growing importance of cyber security.
