ISLAMABAD: China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) Director Hu Shisheng said that China- Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) can be linked with Iran’s Chabahar port.
He expressed these views in a roundtable discussion on ‘New Geopolitics and the Region’ organised by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) on Tuesday.
CRSS Head Imtiaz Gul, former federal finance secretary Waqar Masood, Ambassador Mian Sanaullah, Ambassador Qazi Hamyun, Economist Syed Husaini, and Engineer Arshad Abbasi speak on the occasion.
Hu Shisheng said that that CPEC is mega project and it was predictable that challenges and difficulties will arise. “CPEC is very important for China and it would never like it to fail as some countries may wish so, especially USA and India want failure of the project,” he said adding that India intentionally halting SAARC and other sub-regional cooperation forums in the region.
He said that China has become largest investor in Pakistan. “We didn’t want to see CPEC may face hurdles due to disturbing internal problems within Pakistan” he added.
He said that CPEC was not only a mega project, but the pilot-project of China’s “One Belt One Road” (OBOR) initiative. He said that one basic goal of China is to help its ‘all-weather’ friend.
