LAHORE: Lahore’s biggest food festival ‘Lahore Eat 2017’ is all set to be held despite previous postponements.
Speaking to the media during a press conference held on Wednesday at the Lahore Press Club, event organisers CKO Event Architecture and Latitude CRS reiterated that the iconic food festival would be held as planned with new dates in early March. The event, earlier scheduled from February 10-12, had already been postponed twice, following recommendations from the Lahore District Coordination Officer.
CKO’s Omar Omari informed members of the press that it had been mutually decided to postpone the event for a few weeks, following a meeting with the local government and law enforcement authorities. He added that it had since been decided to hold the event on either the weekend of 10-12 March. Omari also clarified that the venue for the event was not yet being disclosed, and that it would be announced closer to the final dates.
Commenting on the security arrangements, CKO Event Architecture official Aslam Khan said, “Our security measures are extremely stringent. We have engaged a private security company, which is providing bouncers and former Pakistan army commandos as security guards. We will also have extreme police presence with the Punjab Police. The venue itself will be protected with barbed wire, and restricted entry. We also have additional security measures, which we cannot disclose to the public for obvious reasons.”
Latitude CRSCEO Omar Jamil reiterated the strong security measures, adding, “Security will always be our first concern. At the same time, it’s important to remember that the Eat festivals are all about reclaiming our public spaces. Lahore Eat is a festival for all Lahori foodies. We hope that our fellow citizens will come out in droves and help us take back our Lahore, which is a place of peace, joy, and fun.”
