LAHORE: City police has stiffened the snare against unidentified offenders, who attacked a police team while on duty, near the Lady Willingdon Hospital in provincial capital the other day.
This was stated by Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Captin (r) Amin Wains at Police Lines Qilla Gujjar Singh while talking to the media after the funeral prayer for martyred Central Investigation Agency (CIA) cop Zafar Iqbal on Wednesday. He added that Zafar Iqbal had sacrificed his life to secure the lives and assets of the citizens. “The case is being investigated in all respects.”
Additional Inspector General of Police Captain (r) Arif Nawaz, Additional IG (Training) Captain (R) Usman Khattak, DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG (Investigation) Choudhry Sultan, SSP (Investigation) Ghulam Mubashir Mecon, SP CIA Tariq Mastoui, SP HQR Atif Nazir and others participated in the funeral ceremony.
Earlier on Tuesday, three policemen, including two CIA officials, were injured when they were fired upon by alleged robbers. According to police, it was noted that two culprits were allegedly snatching cash from on gun point from the people coming out from the bank in the jurisdiction of Tibbi City area; however, the police team, who was on its way to arrest another proclaimed offender intercepted them. Resultantly, unidentified criminals opened fire on the police team in which three policemen were severely injured. The injured were shifted to a local hospital where policeman Zafar Iqbal succumbed to his injuries.
The martyred policeman was also presented a guard of honour and afterward his body was engulfed with flower sheet. Zafar Iqbal joined police force on November 30, 1996 as a constable. He was a resident of Mughalpura. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
