KARACHI: After a historical building which was situated within the premises of a school building was demolished, students of the school situated in Karachi’s Soldier Bazar were left stranded.
The incident caused much public outrage and damage to the school building.
Lady Jufelhurst, who donated the land for the school in 1928, also built her 500 yard residence in the school. The building was declared a heritage site by Sindh Culture Department.
The claimants of the property, Adnan, Zeeshan and Muhammad Abid, had the building and parts of the school building razed to the ground.
The police have asked for proof of their right to the property after neighbors and school administration filed a report.
Since parts of the school were also demolished, students of grade four and five had no place to study. They were forced to study outside amongst the rubble and debris.
The deputy commissioner has summoned the claimants and the school administration to his office on Monday.
The claimants claim that they purchased the property from its owners who live abroad now. But former administrator of Karachi say that the land mafia is behind the demolition of the property..
“The historical school building should have been offered protection but instead it has been razed to the ground,” the former administrator said.
In the meanwhile, Inspector-General Police (IGP) Sindh AD Khawaja said police has registered a case for the incident.
“The FIR has been filed against those who took part in this, and nobody will be spared in the investigation,” he said this morning.
“This was our national heritage, and whoever demolished it carried out a serious crime. The people who carried out this crime, whether they were a police officer or a common man, they will not be spared,” he said.
