LAHORE: The Punjab caretaker government has barred representatives of local bodies from taking part in election campaigns.
According to a notification issued by the interim provincial government, mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen and vice-chairmen cannot participate in election campaigns.
Participation of local representatives in election campaigns would be considered a violation the code of conduct of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), it read, adding a legal action would be taken against those who violate the code of conduct.
Moreover, district councilors, municipal committee members and UC chairmen have also been stopped from participating in campaigns.
General elections 2018 are set to be held on July 25.
