LAHORE: The district administration and the Metropolitan Corporation (MCL) will constitute a purchase committee to procure vegetables and fruits for 31 Ramazan bazaars that would be functional from May 24 in different zones of the provincial capital.
This was revealed in a meeting held here on Wednesday, which was jointly chaired by Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sumair Ahmed Syed and Lahore Mayor Colonel (r) Mubashir Javed to review the final arrangements to set up Ramazan bazaars across the city.
It was shared in the meeting that 17 essential commodities will be available at market committee stalls to be set up at Ramazan bazaars, while the government would offer subsidies on five products, including banana, apple and three others.
Additional deputy commissioner (Finance, Planning and Headquarter), assistant commissioners, MCL officials, town municipal officers (TMOs), officials of Market Committee, Lahore Waste Management Committee (LWMC), Civil Defence, Industries, Livestock, Lahore Parking Company and police attended the meeting.
Addressing the participants, DC Sumair Ahmed Syed and Mayor Mubashir Javed said that all officials should perform their duty considering it a challenge. “It is our mission to provide maximum relief to citizens through the Ramazan bazaars,” they said, and directed officials of departments concerned to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) constituted by Punjab government for establishment of Ramazan bazaars.
They said that supply of vegetables and fruits would be ensured along with availability of quality edibles at stalls. They said that 10 volunteers of Civil Defence along with police personnel would perform security duties at each bazaar. Around 174 personnel would be deputed to meet challenges of parking issues at the bazaars.
Later, officers of Market Committee, LWMC, Civil Defence, Industries, Livestock, Lahore Parking Company and others briefed the deputy commissioner and the mayor about their plan of execution for establishment of Ramzan bazaars.
