LAHORE: The National Transmission and Dispatch Company Limited (NTDC) has inducted 127 junior engineers (electrical/electronics) out of 6,111 candidates.
Theinduction aims totackle the shortage ofmanpower and to expedite projects by NTDC to mitigate the power crisis.
In this regard, an orientation session for the new engineers was arranged at WAPDA House Lahore on Tuesday.
In his welcome address, NTDCManaging Director Dr Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry congratulated the young engineers. He affirmed that NTDC has selected the brains of the nation since they have to meet the emerging and daunting challenges of the power sector, hence huge responsibility lies on their shoulders.
Comparing the existing power sector, he said that about 20,000MW available capacity was added during the last 69 years. However, NTDC has to build a huge infrastructure to cater to an additional 20,000MW up to 2023-24, the equivalent of raising another power sector. Nevertheless, Chaudhry asserted that NTDC is all set to deliver its best.
He urged the young engineers to have a sense of ownership.
“The NTDC has spread throughout the country and it is the prime responsibility of every employee to protect the assets of the company.”
The NTDC is under a transformation phase to make it a corporate entity; employees have to identify their roles and should have a business-minded approach. He advised the engineers to have a driving passion, mutual respect, develop leadership skills, use resources effectively, and have the ability to work hard with honesty. He also shared the company`s core values and said that the NTDC is striving for a reliable grid which will ultimately drive the country towards growth in terms of economy and development.
NTDC Deputy Managing Director Wajahat Saeed Rana, GM GSO Raja Liaquat Ali, GM NPCC Ilyas Ahmed, GM Planning Maqsood Ahmad Qureshi, DG HR Gulzar Sheikh, Additional CE Design Liaquat Ali and Chief Engineer System Protection Naeem Hassan also gave briefings and gave updates on their respective departments.
