KARACHI: The Sindh High Court will announce it reserved verdict on petitions challenging removal of the provincial Inspector General of Sindh Police by the provincial government.
On May 30, a division bench of SHC had reserved the verdict on identical petitions challenging removal of IG AD Khawaja by the provincial government.
On Tuesday, the court fixed the matter for pronouncement of verdict on September 7. It is to be mentioned here that the court had stayed the removal of Khawaja till the announcement of the verdict in the case.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Munib Akhtar had reserved the verdict after hearing concluding arguments from Advocate General Sindh Zameer Ghumro, Assistant Attorney General Salman Talibuddin and the petitioner lawyer Faisal Siddiqui. It allowed IG Khawaja to continue discharging his duties till pronouncement of the verdict on a date to be fixed by the court office later.
The rift between the Sindh government and IG Khawaja came to the fore when the former surrendered the services of the latter to the centre and appointed additional IG Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti in his place on April 1. However, the provincial government had to suffer a setback on April 3 when the high court suspended its notification, reinstating IG Khawaja.
