ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), conducted operations in different parts of the country under an ongoing special campaign, nabbing 11 peddlers involved in supplying drugs in educational institutions.
The special campaign has been launched as per the directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who also ordered the district administration to initiate a concerted campaign against the use of narcotics in schools and educational institutions.
According to the ANF, its Special Investigation Cell (SIC) was responsible for investigating suspects. In addition special surveillance teams and informers were also engaged in monitoring gangs involved in supplying drugs to educational institutions.
The force also arrested a drug supplier who was allegedly involved in providing marijuana and LSD strips to various students.
The detainee was kept under surveillance for over three weeks so that he could be rounded up red-handed. 27 tokens of weed and 32 LSD blotters worth Rs 153,100 which he used to distribute in a week were seized from his possession.
The ANF was also working to check exceptions which provide opportunities to drug peddlers to operate unchecked in educational institutions.
In this regard, some institutions have been advised by the ANF on administrative actions that they could take.
Meanwhile, in its countrywide campaign, the ANF seized a huge cache of narcotics weighing 12.15 tonnes, worth Rs 18.5 billion in the international market.
The operations also resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects involved in drug smuggling, while three vehicles were also impounded. The seized drugs comprised 10.976 tonnes of hashish, 1.177 tonnes of heroin, 1.7 kg of amphetamine and 850 grammes of opium.
Quetta ANF seized 10.958 tonnes of hashish in an operation at Qilla Abdullah.
According to details, the drugs were concealed at an uninhabited site located in the Killi Ghaiba Zai area of Tehsil Gulistan for further transportation.
Quetta ANF, in another operation, seized 1.175 tonnes of heroin while intercepting a vehicle at Chaman Road, Tehsil Saranan, District Pishin.
However, the persons on-board managed to flee. In addition the force arrested a drug supplier, Hayat Ullah, resident of Qilla Abdullah who was carrying 11 kg of hashish near Bashir Chowk, Quetta City.
Rawalpindi ANF arrested a drug carrier, Ibrar Zela Muhammad, resident of Swabi and confiscated one kilogramme of hashish from his possession. He was arrested at Chungi No. 26, G.T.Road, Islamabad. The force also arrested a local drug peddler, Ashna Gul, resident of Khyber Agency and seized 1.25 kg Hashish near Khanna Pul, Rawalpindi.
Lahore ANF intercepted a Suzuki Cultus near the Faizpur Motorway Toll Plaza and seized six kilogrammes of hashish concealed in it. The operation also resulted in the arrest of three drug smugglers including Obaidullah and Abu Bakar Sidique, residents of Nowshera, and Muhammad Safdar, resident of Lahore.
In another operation, Lahore ANF arrested a drug peddler, Ansar Ali, and discovered 600g of opium in his possession. He was arrested from Daska Chowk in Sialkot.
The Lahore ANF Airport Team arrested a passenger Muhammad Ansar, resident of Mandi Bahauddin, at Allama Iqbal International Airport while he was boarding for Madina by Qatar Airways Flight No. QR-621 and confiscated 1.7 kg of amphetamines concealed in his luggage.
The Peshawar ANF Road Check Team during routine checking near Motorway Toll Plaza, Peshawar arrested a drug carrie, Muhammad Sadiq, and confiscated six kilogrammes of hashish. The accused was arrested while travelling in a passenger van bound for Rawalpindi.
In another operation, the Peshawar ANF arrested two people, Muhammad Ashfaq, resident of Vehari and Rao Umar Draz, resident of Pakpattan. They confiscated one kilogramme of hashish and 250 grammes of opium from their possession. The detainees were arrested near the Motorway Toll Plaza while travelling in a passenger bus bound for Rawalpindi.
The force, in yet another operation, apprehended a drug carrier, Muhammad Tariq, resident of Charsadda while he was travelling in a passenger van near Motorway Toll Plaza, Peshawar and confiscated two kilogrammes of hashish from his possession.
In addition, the ANF arrested a drug carrier Zeeshan, resident of Peshawar, carrying 1.65 kg of heroin, while he was travelling in a passenger van near the Motorway Toll Plaza in Peshawar.
Karachi ANF, in a joint operation with Sindh Rangers, arrested a local drug peddler Muhammad Akram, resident of Karachi, and seized 1.2 kg of hashish and 1.2 kg of heroin from his possession.
