ISLAMABAD: During the last week, three children died of measles in Heleemzai tehsil of Mohmand Agency.
Media reported that the deceased children includedthe eight-yearold son of a man, Kamran, hailing from Baro Khel area. In addition, minor Abdur Rehman, hailing from Babi Khel, and another child from Ghazi Koras well as the children of Mehroban Shah and Rahim Shah in Jamakhel village also died of the disease.
Locals said that 12 children suffered from measles in Ato Khel area five months ago but the Health Department did notcarry out proper vaccination in the affected villages due to whichthe disease was affecting more children now.
Upper Mohmand Assistant Political Agent Haseebur Rehman saida special team of doctors would be sent to the affected areas.
However, the Mohmand Agency Health Department has neitherconfirmed nor denied the initiation of a measles vaccination campaignin the area.
