KARACHI: While taking notice of the poor condition of public transport in the city, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approved a plan to introduce 600 intercity buses in the metropolis.
The chief minister made the decision during a meeting held on Wednesday along with discussion on Blue Line project.
The CM said that the Sindh government will help transporters in generating funds for the new buses, while their insurance will be done by the Sindh Insurance Company.
“Sindh government will give Rs2 billion through Modraba, and provide banks 30 percent credit risk guarantee,” he added.
He informed that the construction of roads and underpasses in the city is underway, and in the next phase a plan for buses will be initiated.
The Transport Minister Nasir Shah said in the meeting that the city needed 8000 new buses.
The city does not have proper public transport, and buses heaped with passengers till the ceiling are a common sight. People who use these buses to commute pose a danger to their life, as accidents are common.
