LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the sub campus of the Air University in Multan.
Air Chief Marshal Sohial Aman was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony, the chief minister said, “Instead of doing politics on education, health, defence and economic development, we should get united and make efforts for development of the country.” The chief minister also announced that around 125,000 laptops would be distributed among youth this year.
He stressed the need to provide give quality education to the youth. He added that provision of better educational facilities to the youth was vital to overcome ongoing challenges. He said that establishment of the sub-campus of the Air University would help provide educational facilities to students of far-flung areas.
In his address, the air chief appreciated the chief minister for taking robust measures for improvement in education sector. He said that the Punjab government provided all-out support for establishment of the institution for special children.
He said that the new campus of Air University would help provide quality education to the youth of southern Punjab. He said the PAF would always come up to the expectations of the nation.
Referring to situation of law and order, the air chief said the government was extended full cooperation to the Pakistan Army to root out terrorism from the country.
Punjab Education Minister Syed Ali Raza Gillani, Air University Multan Campus director, Bahauddin Zikariya University acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Bashir Ahmed Chaudhry, Nawaz Sharif Agriculture University VC Prof Dr Asif Ali, Javed Ali Shah, Abdul Ghafar, Multan Mayor Ch Naveedul Haq Arain, Haji Ihsanullah Qureshi, Khaula Amjad, Sultana Shaheen and District Council Chairman Dewan Abbasi Bokhari were also present.
Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the business of fake medicines will be eliminated at all costs.
Chairing a meeting here on Wednesday to the review the measures taken for improvement of laboratories in the province, the chief minister said that nobody would be allowed to play havoc with the lives of the people.
Shahbaz said that upgradation of the Drug Testing Lab in Lahore was a revolutionary step, and added that such a laboratory would also be upgraded in Faisalabad. He said that implementation of modern human rights practices would change the culture of drug testing labs.
The meeting also decided to extend cooperation with LGC laboratories of Britain.
Meanwhile, the chief minister on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to the Lahore airport to review the progress of work on the expansion project of the Allama Iqbal International Airport.
The Civil Aviation director general briefed the chief minister on the project. The chief minister said that beauty of the airport should be kept in mind during its expansion.
Punjab chief secretary, Lahore commissioner and officials concerned were also present.
