KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Wing (CTW) Sindh with the collaboration of an intelligence agency have nabbed key suspects who blew up an SSGC pipeline.
According to law enforcers, the arrested men are activists of the Balochistan Liberation Army, having an effective network in Lyari Town with the support of LGW elements.
An explosion had damaged the Sui gas pipeline near MadinatulHikmat area of Manghopir on Thursday causing damage to the 16-inch diameter gas pipeline. Though no loss of life was reported from the explosion,l, due to the incident, gas supply to Manghopir, Banaras, and nearby areas was disrupted.
According to an initial bomb disposal squad report, around 500-600 grams of local explosive content was used in the incident. The case was registered against unidentified persons for attacking a gas pipeline.
Counter-Terrorism Department of the Sindh police, in collaboration with the intelligence agencies on Friday raided at the hideouts of the suspects at Manghopir area and arrested two suspected members of the nationalist party of Balochistan – Baloch Liberation Army.
Their arrests have yet to be disclosed. A source in the CTD confirmed the arrests saying that the suspects arrested were identified as Ayaz Brohi and Muhammad Khan, adding that the suspects arrested had also been involved in attacking the gas pipelines in Sui area as well as attacking the security forces.
One of them, Ayaz, was also wounded during an encounter with security forces in Quetta in the past. A source in the police said that having a strong network in Lyari and support of the Lyari gangsters, the accused persons had also been involved in attacking the security forces in parts of Karachi including Baldia Town, Manghopir and their surrounding areas. Further investigation was underway.
