KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khowaja on Sunday offered the funeral prayers of martyred head constable at Police Headquarters Garden area of the metropolis.
Raja Younus and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sarfaraz Iftikhar were killed when unknown armed men opened fire on a police van in Dhoraji area in the wee hours of Sunday.
The funeral prayers were also attended by senior police officers and victim’s relatives, friends and associates. The special squad of police presented guard of honour to the martyred cop.
On this occasion, Sindh IGP paid tribute to two martyred policemen who were shot dead in Karachi by armed men. He also expressed condolences with the heirs. IGP announced provision of all due incentives to legal heirs of martyred policemen and instructed police officers to complete all matters immediately in this regard. He also announced to give government job to one member of the victim families.
Two policemen were shot dead and one other injured in a targeted attack by unidentified assailants in Dhoraji area of the metropolis on Sunday, rescue sources said.
A police van was on its routine patrolling when six armed men riding three motorcycles opened fire on it. As a result, ASI Sarfaraz Iftikhar, aged 50 and Head Constable Younus, 47, died on the spot while another official Shehensha, 47, was injured.
The body of the martyred ASI was sent to his home in Faisalabad after an autopsy. Additional Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Mehr has announced Rs 2.5 million rewards for those leading to identification of the suspects.
