CHITRAL: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan that it is the first time that big crooks are being questioned over corruption in the country for the first time , saying that Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is making history, said on Tuesday.
Imran was expressing these views while addressing a ceremony after inaugurating work on Lawi Hydroelectric Power project and water project in Drosh area of Chitral. He said that Sharif’s laundered money after stealing it from public funds, and now make ‘innocent faces’ when asked for explanations. He said that “this is your money that they have looted”.
Referring to the ongoing Panama case investigation, he said that the Sharifs are being held accountable by the JIT. “Now the princess has been summoned and they are making a huge hue and cry. Have you forgotten about Benazir Bhutto?” he asked. The PTI chief is in Chitral where he inaugurated a small-scale hydroelectric power supply scheme. It was owing to Imran’s visit that he failed to appear in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday to submit his reply in a contempt petition against him.
Addressing the ceremony, he said there are two major problems facing the nation: water and electricity. “You will be surprised to know most children die in Pakistan because of drinking contaminated water. This is extremely shameful for us. Since the government does not fulfill its responsibility common people have to bribe the authorities in order to get clean water. Providing a basic necessity for the people is our policy. This is the right of the people. This is the responsibility of the government,” he said.
The electricity produced in the country is really expensive because it is made with imported fuel paid for by dollars which lead to taking international loans, he explained. “To return those loans we have to tax our people. If this tax wasn’t there then things would be relatively cheaper,” he added. Imran stated that Pakistan was either importing fuel or using coal for its electricity which was also harmful since it caused pollution.
“Our future is dependent on hydroelectricity. In the 1960’s when we relied on hydroelectricity, the prices of electricity were the lowest and there was no load-shedding,” he claimed. The PTI chairman said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan ‘big dacoits’ are being held accountable.
He said that the PML-N leaders after looting preset to be innocent and naive. He said now when the JIT is holding them acceptable they are making hue and cry, despite the fact these people distributed sweets when Supreme Court ordered its constitution.
Regarding PML-N’s objections on summoning Maryam Nawaz by the JIT, he said that while objecting to the summon why the PML-N leaders forget Benazir Bhutto whom they dragged to courts.
He said that the nation will get good news, saying that the history is being created as mighty and powerful are being held accountable. The PTI chief said that a large number of people in the country have no access to safe and clean drinking water as children are dying due to water-borne diseases. He said that providing clean and safe drinking water is the responsibility of the government.
While addressing the gathering, he said that this is the new Pakistan where the powerful and the weak will be equally treated according to the law and this is called supremacy of the law.
Meanwhile talking to a private TV channel the PTI chairman said that Pakistan is soon to enter a new era and people will receive a good news shortly. He lashed out at the government and said that PML-N distributed sweets when the JIT was formed but now they are criticising it as the matter is going out of their hands.
Imran said that the Sharif’s family is baffled at the moment as they neither have any answer nor money trail. “What was the reason before when the Sharif brothers distributed sweets on JIT’s formation and what it is now when they are attacking it and Supreme Court. It is because they are unable to manage the situation,” said the PTI chief.
He said that unemployment will end in Pakistan if the money is not stolen and taken out of the country.
