KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) detained at least 20 suspects in a combing operation around Central Jail in the early hours of Thursday.
According to media reports, 200 personnel from six stations of Gulshan town police took part in the operation on a tip-off about the presence of criminal groups in the area. The police also blocked the entry and exit points of the area.
Police also said that biometric devices were used during the operation in Ghosia Colony.
Gulshan SP Dr Fahad informed media that the identity of the suspects apprehended was being matched from the biometric devices. He added a foreign national was arrested by the officials.
He said, “A Tunisian national, Ayub Ali, was arrested for illegally residing in the country.”
The operation comes just after the Pakistan Army announced on Wednesday the start of a nationwide military operation, Radd-ul-Fasaad, which would include broad-spectrum security and counter-terrorism operations in Punjab, and continuation of ongoing operations across the country.
