LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court ordered to seal the sugar mills of the ruling Sharifs, as they were shifted to new locations in violation of stay orders.
The bench directed the sessions judges concerned to seal the mills and submit a compliance report.
The bench ordered that Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills in Muzaffargarh and Chaudhry Sugar Mills in Rahim Yar Khan would remain shut until further orders and sought further arguments in the case on March 28.
The bench was hearing intra-court appeals moved by administration of the two mills and Ittefaq Sugar Mills, challenging a single bench that had set aside their shifting of these three mills to southern Punjab.
The single bench had passed the impugned decision in October 2016 on petitions filed on behalf of the administration of JDW Sugar Mills of PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen.
During the hearing on Thursday Aitzaz Ahsan advanced arguments on behalf of the JDW sugar mills. He said three sugar mills of the Sharifs completed their shifting.
He pointed out that Chaudhry Sugar Mills spent Rs 600 million on its relocation despite the stay. He submitted bank documents and photographs of the mills’ shifting process in support of his argument.
