LONDON: England and Wales Cricket Board Chairman Colin Graves on Sunday said that former Pakistani skipper Imran Khan’s statement about foreign players is insulting.
In an interview, the chairman expressed his concerns over Imran Khan’s statement after Pakistan Super League-2017 concluded in Lahore earlier this month, saying that Imran’s statement regarding Darren Sammy and Dawid Malan, who arrived in Lahore for the final match of the PSL, was ‘disparaging’.
Imran’s statement attracted a lot of criticism for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief.
In a video that was claimed as an off-the-record conversation with a journalist, Imran was seen stating that “I don’t know even the name of any of these so-called foreign players. It seems to me that they have been caught from here and there, some caught from Africa to tell us that they are foreign players. We don’t know who these people are.”
Graves said that foreign players who arrived in Lahore deserved respect and appreciation and no insults for playing the final match despite security concerns.
PSL administration and Pakistan Cricket Board successfully organised the match in Pakistan despite international concerns.
Foreign players of Quetta Gladiators including Kevin Pietersen refused to come to Pakistan and the cricket board substituted them with other international players.
