LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has sealed 10 marriage halls, 11 residential properties and tore down boundary walls of private housing schemes during a crackdown on illegal constructions on Saturday.
Staff of Commercialisation Directorate Town Planning Wing of the LDA sealed 10 marriage halls on Ferozepur Road. Sources said that these marriage halls were constructed in “contravention” of building by-laws. The minimum plot size required for constructing a marriage hall was four kanals and two kanals had to be left vacant for parking vehicles, but none of these marriage halls had fulfilled these conditions. “The owners of these buildings had illegally set up these ventures after getting approval for constructing residences or office buildings,” they added.
Those marriage halls sealed include Taj Mehal, Prince Hall, New Prince, Challet Marriage Hall, Sorraj Marriage Hall, Tariq Lawn, Shahid Marriage, Naqshbandi Hall, Star Gate and Dewani Akbari.
Separately, during its operation against illegal housing schemes as well as unlawful constructions, staff of Town Planning Wing of LDA demolished boundary walls of Madina View Society.
The authority also sealed 11 residential properties in Johar Town, Wapda Town, Quaid-e-Azam Town and New garden Town over commercial use of residential buildings.
