ISLAMABAD: The executive committee members of the Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) have expressed concern over what they believed to be a curtailing of powers of vice presidents and barring them from appointing regional standing committees by president Zubair Tufail. A joint statement issued by Mian Usman Zulfiqar, Fehmida Jamali, Dr Shella Javed Akram, Mian Anjum Nisar, Fakhruddin Khan, Shahidur Rehman, and Mohammad Wazir said that for the last few, years, the practice was for the regional chairman to appoint a chairman of the Standing Committee to address the problems of the regional business community.
The statement said that Zubair Tufail, with a dictatorial mindset, issued directives barring vice presidents and regional chairmen to make such appointments in future. They said that the FPCCI President was doing these things on the wishes of the TDAP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SM Munir, which is in sheer violation of the FPCCI rules and regulations.
The vice presidents used to select regional committees to address the issues from their respective district chambers and associations. They said that the FPCCI president has no moral and legal authority to undermine their powers. Former FPCCI President, Senator Ghulam Ali, said that they would raise the issue in the coming executive committee meeting to discuss on what grounds Zubair Tufail took away the powers of the vice presidents.
