KASHMIR: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on Tuesday, said that at least one person had been injured in Indian firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Khuiratta sector.
The man, Ashfaq, is a 25-year old labourer hailing from the village of Tain.
“Pakistani troops effectively responded to Indian firing,” added the ISPR statement.
Cross border firing has occurred intermittently in the new year, scaled down from the frequent firing incidents in the last months of 2016 with tensions between Pakistan and India simmering over the Kashmir issue.
Following the attack on the Uri army base in September, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped up isolationist tactics against Pakistan, along with greater aggression on the border.
In the days following the attack, India claimed to have conducted a cross-border ‘surgical strike’ against ‘launch pads of terror’ in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, a claim strongly rejected by Pakistan.
In comparison, Pakistan alleges that the Indian are an attempt to divert the world’s attention away from the ‘atrocities’ committed by forces in Indian-held Kashmir.
The neighbours have been locked in dispute over the Kashmir issue after Indian forces cracked down on protesters after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed by government forces in July.
