ISLAMABAD: Strongly condemning the attack outside the Punjab Assembly on Monday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated that the government was committed to eliminating terrorism from the country.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House, Nawaz urged the nation not to lose heart. He expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of the chief traffic officer, the deputy inspector general and others. He directed the authorities concerned to provide best medical facilities to the injured. Separately, President Mamnoon Hussain also condemned the attack and said that such acts could not shake the resolve of the nation.
He also conveyed his condolences to the families of all those who embraced martyrdom. Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa condemned the terrorist act in Lahore and expressed his grief over the loss of innocent lives. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief instructed the local commander and intelligence agencies to provide all necessary assistance to the civil administration in evacuation of the injured to hospitals and also to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. In a separate statement, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the attack. Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani also said that cowardly attacks could not deter the resolve of the nation in the war against terrorism.
