LAHORE: Justice Shujaat Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Wednesday issued notices to the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, vice chancellor and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman over alleged illegal appointments at the university.
The court directed the chairman and the UET vice chancellor to submit comments within four weeks.
Counsel for petitioner Sheraz Zaka argued UET Registrar Muhammad Asif and Controller Examination Zaigham Nusrat had been appointed in violation of rules.
He drew the attention of the court towards the letters written by the Punjab Auditor General Department deputy director and the Higher Education Department, which stated that both the registrar and controller examination should be appointed on merit. He requested the court to declare both the appointments illegal.
