Gujranwala: Contrary to the federal government’s claim that no power loadshedding would be carried out anywhere in the country during the Sehri and Iftar timings, most parts of the district have experienced hour long power outages spreading over the prescribed timings on the first day of Ramazan. Recovery teams of power utilities also continued their disconnection drive adding to the miseries of consumers.
Already hit by the sizzling weather condition, the citizens of Gujranwala were facing more hardships because the GEPCO who have failed to ensure uninterrupted supply to various parts of the city including Civil Lines, Mohallah Islamabad, College Road etc. the citizens criticized GEPCO officers for unscheduled loadshedding and said that the government had miserably failed to overcome the power crisis.
They demanded senior GEPCO officers may be directed to stop the practice of unscheduled load shedding during the holy month of Ramazan. Citizens also demanded that small time defaulters may be given a chance to submit their bills, instead of disconnecting their electricity connections.
DC makes surprise visits to Ramazan bazars: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Amir Jaan and CPO Ashfaq Ahmed Khan paid surprise visits to Shaheenabad and Dhulley Ramzan Bazars and inspected the food items being sold in these bazars and the security arrangements.
DC directed the concerned staff that effective steps be taken for monitoring the quality, supply and prices of eatables in these Ramzan bazaars so that relief could be provided to people in a real sense.
He warned that no compromise would be made on quality of items. He said that a strict check be kept on the quality of daily-use items and weights and measures in Ramzan bazaars.
Earlier, they inquired about the usefulness of Sasta bazaars and the prices and quality of items being sold there. Many people expressed their satisfaction over the rates.
CPO Ashfaq Ahmed Khan also inspected the security arrangements in these bazaars and gave instructions to the police officials for fool proof security.
