KARACHI: The Statistics and Data Warehouse Department of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) compiles and disseminates external sector statistics regularly on monthly basis.
The SBP always strives to enhance data quality, coverage, and adhering to best international standards. The changes related to compilation, dissemination and methodology are notified to all stakeholders in the form of a revision study.
In order to improve the quality of external sector statistics, SBP has enhanced the coverage by getting information of permissible offshore foreign currency accounts transactions related to energy and power sectors.
It is to be informed that the SBP has revised external sector statistics from the period of July 2014 onwards by including data on offshore transactions. Resultantly, the central bank has revised: Imports of goods and Services, Primary Income and Secondary Income under the head of Current Account and Foreign Direct Investment and Other Investment [Currency and Deposits (Assets) of Other Sector and Loans of Other Sector – Disbursements and Amortization] under the head of Financial Account.
Accordingly, external debt and liabilities and debt servicing data have also been revised. The revision study for these changes is available at the central bank’s website.
