ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Saturday that his party had chosen Awami Muslim League (ANP) chief Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed to be the opposition’s joint candidate for the prime minister’s slot.
He said this after presiding over a high-level party meeting at Bani Gala.
“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will further harm its cause by appointing Shahbaz Sharif the new prime minister. How did Shahbaz Sharif’s name come up in the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case? We will file a reference against him. Doesn’t the PML-N have a better candidate than Shahbaz Sharif?” he asked.
The PTI chief said this time his party would be prepared. “We have learnt a lot from the rigging in the 2013 elections,” he said. Khan said his party would not allow the country to fall into the grip of corruption again. “The Supreme Court’s verdict disqualifying Nawaz Sharif and the prime minister’s subsequent resignation are a victory achieved through hard work and patience,” he said. During the meeting, the situation after the prime minister’s resignation came under discussion.
