GUJRANWALA: Provincial minister for local government Mansha Ullah Butt said that the Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has taken serious notice of bad performance of waste management company Gujranwala, heaps of garbage besides G.T road and by-passes have raised questions on GWMC’s performance.
He was addressing a meeting of GWMC held at the mayor’s office Gujranwala, while deputy secretary local government Punjab Najeeb Aslam, Mayor Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, MPA Taufeeq Butt, Deputy Mayors Salman Khalid Pomi Butt, Rana Maqsood Ahmed, director local government Abdul Hameed Qasim, CEO Ahmed Kamal, MD waste management company Mehra Afzal and other officers were also present in the meeting.
Minister said that to ensure the health and cleanliness facilities to the citizens, waste management company Gujranwala should perform better, there is a dire need to run a campaign for reducing the use of polythen bags.
He directed the MD to take necessary steps for cleanliness of Muharram procession routs, he also directed the PHA authorities to work hard for beautification of the citizen. Mayor Sheikh Sarwat Ikram said that due to lack of staff the municipal corporation is having trouble removing encroachments from the city, deputy mayor Salman Khalid Pommi Butt told the minister that 50 years old sewerage system of the city cannot afford the present load which must be replaced according to the new requirements.
Separately, dacoits and thieves were on the rampage as citizens were deprived of cash, gold ornaments, vehicles and other valuables in 25 hits here on Wednesday.
In Saddar Gujranwala police station limit bandits looted Rs 45 thousand, locket set and cell phone from Hafeez, in city Kamoki area robbers snatched Rs 43 thousand, gold ornaments and two cell phones from Ibttisaam, in Ali Pur Chatha dacoits took away Rs 70 thousand, three cell phones and locket set from Hassan Ali, in Wahndo Ejaz was deprived of Rs 70 thousand, cell phone on gun point, at Sohdra bandits looted Rs 55 thousand, two cell phones and gold ornaments from Aslam, in Saddar Kamoki, Waheed was deprived of Rs 14 thousand, motorcycle and cell phone on gun point, in model town area dacoits took away Rs 47 thousand, two cell phones and gold ornaments from Abdul Mannan, in Ferozwala robbers intercepted Iqra and deprived her of Rs 53 thousand, gold ornaments and cell phones, in Sabzi Mandi police station limit bandits snatched Rs 17 thousand, motorcycle and cell phones from Rashid, two armed men entered in the shop of Hassam and looted Rs 37 thousand and valuables, in Aroop bandits looted Rs 30 thousand, gold ornaments and cell phones from Mubeen, in city Kamoki area Fareed was deprived of Rs 60 thousand, three cell phones and gold ring on gun point, in Emanabad robbers snatched Rs 30 thousands and cell phone from Husnain.
In theft incidents unknown thieves took away cash, gold ornaments and valuables from the houses and shops of Mohsin, Ansar, Qasim, Farooq, Aalamgir, Abdul Rehman, Farhan, Waqas and Yasir while Motorcycles of Sheikh Jehangir and Rauf were stolen from different places.
