LAHORE: Following the Supreme Court’s criticism on government’s failure to get rid of the Faizabad protesters, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the government machinery was fully capable to clear the area within three hours if assured against the propagation of the sensitivity of the issue.
“An important announcement regarding Faizabad sit-in is expected in next 24 hours,” Iqbal claimed during a media talk.
Workers of different religious parties, occupying Faizabad Interchange for last three years, are demanding the resignation of Law Minister Zahid Hamid for his alleged involvement in altering the declaration for lawmakers regarding the belief on “Khatm-e-Nubuwwat”.
However, Iqbal maintained nobody can force the law minister to reign.
“Conditions to end the sit-in will not be accepted at gun point,” he added.
He went on to say that the intentions of the protesters were only to influence the vote bank of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
“Dirty politics is being played in the name of “Khatm-e-Nubuwwat,” he said and added that the government would not bow down before the protestors.
Moreover, Islamabad administration has decided to close the street lights around the area of Faizabad Interchange.
It was also decided to resume the metro bus service which was suspended for last 14 days.
