LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Haider Sultan with 55,705 votes has taken a significant lead over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Tariq Afzal wh0 has managed to secure 33,554 votes in the by-poll of PP-20 Chakwal, the unofficial and inconclusive results from 161 polling stations suggest.
Voting in Chakwal’s PP-20 began early on Tuesday morning in the by-election and continued till 5 pm.
The seat fell vacant on October 30 after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) MPA Chaudhry Liaquat Ali Khan died.
According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), 227 polling stations were set up for the 279,538 registered voters. Five polling stations were declared highly sensitive and 45 others as sensitive.
Out of 814 polling booths, 393 were set up for women and 421 for men.
Over 100,00 female voters were expected to cast their ballots today.
PML-N supporters have started celebrating the victory of their candidate Haider Sultan.
