ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen has on Friday filed a review petition in Supreme Court (SC) against his disqualification. He had been disqualified for life by SC in its December 15 verdict under Article 62(1)(f) of the constitution, declaring him dishonest under multiple charges.
Tareen maintained in his review petition that he had not concealed his assets deliberately in the nomination papers. It further added that the concealed asset, a Hyde House in Briatin, was bought by The Random Trust, owned by Tareen and established in 2011, remained from being declared mistakenly. The affidavit submitted by him along with the review petition also maintains that Tareen had appointed himself and his wife as beneficiaries as a protective measure only.
Jahangir Tareen had been de-notified by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from his Lodhran seat in view of the SC decision. The new date of election has been set as February 12. Jahangir Tareen nominated his son Ali Tareen to contest the election from NA-154 in his place.

A petition has today been filed in SC to challenge the by-election. The petitioner maintained that ECP had set the date as February 12 while the assembly’s tenure was going to end on May 31. He maintained that Article 224 of the constitution barred holding any election during the last 120 days of the assembly’s tenure.
