ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly has passed a resolution against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Awami Muslim League (AML) spearhead Sheikh Rasheed on Thursday for their derogatory remarks against the parliament during Wednesday’s Mall Road rally.
Members of all major political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Awami National Party (ANP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) among others demanded that Imran and Sheikh Rasheed be summoned to appear before the parliament to explain their remarks.
Opposition leader Khurshid Shah said that he has been deeply disturbed by remarks made by leaders of two of Pakistan’s major political parties and that such statements are unacceptable. He added that the parliament should not be blamed for the failures of the government.
Earlier, PTI chief had cursed the parliament “for allowing a ‘criminal’ (in reference to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif) to become party president of PML-N.” AML chief had also used similar statements regarding the institution during Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)’s joint protest rally with the country’s prominent political parties.

Imran Khan’s tirade against parliament is woeful. He’s been enjoying all the perks & privileges as a member of the very same parliament for nearly 5 years.

The #PPP respects Parliament and will always respect Parliament. Cannot help the behaviour of others but will never endorse disrespecting Parliament.

Imran responds to critics with ‘mild’ use of language tweet
The PTI chief, however, believes that his use of derogatory words against the parliament was a ‘mild’ outburst, also asking the critics to hold public polls in order to judge popularity of the institution amongst the general public.
When a Parliament, which must protect nation’s interests, passes a person-specific law allowing a disqualified person guilty of Rs 3 bn money laundering, tax evasion, concealment of assets, forgery & perjury to become head of a pol party, then such a law is a “laanath” on Parl.

In fact in this specific context “laanath” is a mild word to use. If anyone disagrees, I challenge them to do a public poll on what ppl think of such a Parliament. I can guarantee most will condemn it. https://t.co/ZbaH06m1xt
