ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) announced on Monday to charge Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nehal Hashmi again for contempt of court on March 26.
Hashmi was sentenced to one month in jail and disqualification for five years by SC on February 1 on contemptuous speeches against the apex court the previous year.
The court decided to charge Hashmi on March 7 in contempt of court the second time on the basis of his speech made after his release from the jail. Hashmi while talking to the media outside SC had stated that he didn’t pass disrespectful remarks against the judges or the judiciary. He added that it is his constitutional right to be free of wrong charges, hoping that the court will accept his apology.
Pakistan Bar Council Vice-Chairman Kamran Murtaza during the hearing excused himself from Hashmi’s legal representation. Hashmi stated that he was being victimized due to his political affiliation and loyalty with Nawaz Sharif.
