Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman has been elected as the leader of opposition in the Senate.
Sherry’s appointment as the opposition leader made her the first female to hold the post in Pakistan’s Senate.
A notification in this regard has also been issued by the Senate Secretariat.

Sherry, in her video message, thanked Chairman PPP Bilawal, co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and party peers for giving her this opportunity. She also thanked the FATA group, the Awami National Party and others who pledged support for her.
Earlier, Bilawal took to Twitter to express a hope that the senator would make history by becoming the first ever lady to play the role of the opposition leader in the upper house.
#PPP ready to make history again. We nominate Senator @sherryrehman for the position of Leader of Opposition. InshAllah she will be the first woman to lead the opposition in the senate. Pakistan People’s Party; #WeMakeHistory

However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged her appointment, terming it a violation of the law.
Sherry has served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States 2011-2013. She was elected to the Senate in 2015.
