ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) disgruntled leader Chaudhry Nisar on Wednesday warned the party that if remarks against him from ‘some’ party leaders do not stop, he would contest the elections as an independent candidate.
During a recent meeting with party president and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Nisar is said to have conveyed that he would contest as an independent candidate if ‘some’ PML-N leaders do not end their ‘defamation campaign’ against the former interior minister.
According to party sources, Nisar is not happy with former PM Nawaz for siding with daughter Maryam and showing unwillingness to make ends meet. It was further mentioned that Nisar contesting as an independent candidate would prove to be a ‘major blow for Shehbaz and PML-N’.
Party sources further revealed that Nawaz had ‘sidelined’ Nisar due to his opposition of various policies of the former PM. “During tough times, it is the responsibility of senior party leaders to set aside their differences and work for the collective good of the unit, but Nisar did not support the party,” it was added.
