Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb Thursday said that joint efforts were needed to address multiple challenges and threats facing the media In her message on World Press Freedom Day, the minister said some of those challenges were structural, institutional, personal and transient and only a joint front could defeat the enemies of press freedom.
She said the freedom of press was no longer a luxury or a choice, but it was the foundation stone of all modern societies without which they could not function.
She said that the media was still facing many restrictions. She added that an independent media free from curbs could guarantee peace and development in a country.
