ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that political rivals could not compete with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the field of serving the nation. “We will once again form government after 2018 general election by defeating those who are indulged in mudslinging and hurling allegations,” he said while talking to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House.
The two leaders discussed the country’s political situation, Panama leaks verdict, Dawn leaks and other matters of mutual interest.
Speaking on the occasion, the premier said that his government would release the dream of achieving targets of national development at any cost. “Political rivals through false allegations and propaganda are creating hurdles in the way of implementation of the government’s national development agenda because they can never match us in the political field.”
Talking to the premier, Fazl said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the name of change had defaced Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, besides promoting ugly politics therein. “But the people of KP are conscious enough and they know well whom they have to support for the sake of national development.” He said that those doing politics of chaos would be defeated in the next general election.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif stopped ministers and party leaders, except four ministers, from giving statements on news leaks issue.
Sources said the PM, for the sake of avoiding any confrontation between state institutions, had stopped all except four PML-N leaders and ministers from giving any statement on the issue. They said that only Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ishaq Dar, Abdul Qadir Baloch and Maryam Aurangzeb were allowed to talk on it.
Separately, Commander of the Sri Lankan Army Lt Gen AWJ De Silva called on Nawaz Sharif at the PM’s House.
Expressing satisfaction over the level of existing cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the premier stressed the need for further strengthening defence-related cooperation between the two countries. The PM stated that Pakistan and Sri Lanka needed to enhance cooperation in various fields and work jointly for achieving regional peace and stability.
